Protein in sperm – what is the nutritional content that makes these cells?

A man’s reproductive organ is very special in a way since production of sperm continues even when one is not sexually active. As soon as a male has reached puberty this process will start, and it continues forever. This is why even a 90 year old man is still fertile and can impregnate a woman, though this is not the same case for a woman. Egg reproduction in women’s body start during puberty and stop in their forties and once it is gone they can never have any more children. As you have seen this is one of the differences between a male and female reproduction system.

Many people use the word sperm while actually what they mean is semen, but since semen contains sperm then it is alright to use this word interchangeably. When sperm is being manufactured it always requires different form of nutrients which include protein, vitamins, enzymes and other minerals which all play a part in the formation of sperm. The protein in sperm is second only after cholesterol and therefore this means that if you want to have healthy sperm then you should eat enough protein so that it can be used in production of these cells.

Where production of sperm and semen is done

Let’s see what semen is made of and from this you can be sure that you will know everything that you need to be eating to make your reproductive system healthy. First, the most important thing is to know where sperm production takes place. Both semen and sperm are manufactured in the sexual reproduction system of the man, which is comprised of different organs that help to achieve this. When semen and sperm are being manufactured it takes place in three main areas in the system. The three main factories of sperm are the testicle, prostate and seminal vesicles.

In the prostate there is formation of the whitish fluid which is normally seen after ejaculation. This is what many refer to as sperm but in the actual sense this is known as the semen. This fluid is comprised of proteins, enzymes as well as minerals and all these elements are very useful when it comes to the survival of the sperm while on its way to fertilize the woman’s body. The second place where production of the sperm is done is in the testicles where actual sperm is produced. The sperm is manufactured here and it takes around 70-75 days for the sperm to mature and become ready for fertilization.

It is estimated that there are millions of sperm which are manufactured every second and therefore this helps to ensure at any given time there is sperm ready to be used to fertilize a woman’s egg. Production of that many cells require a person to be healthy and it may be necessary for one to take supplements for healthy sperm which will help the sperm to be fit for fertilization. In the testicles you will also find other fluids being manufactured that will also be part of the semen which carries sperm to its destination.

Seminal vesicles on the other hand are responsible for production of fructose and the largest part of the fluid that forms the semen. The fructose is responsible for energy production and helps the sperm to swim all the way to the egg without any need of additional energy. If you undergo a sperm test then you will have to be tested if your semen contains all the important minerals that the semen needs for the sperm to survive and be capable of surviving in the harsh conditions of the female reproduction area. The protein in sperm is very useful as it gives the sperm the amino acids which help in the formation of the genetic factor of the cell.
